One Person Dead After House Fire in Athens
UPDATE 1:10 P.M. 1/11/2024: Athens Borough Police Department confirmed to WENY News 62-year-old Donald R. Chandler was the man who died in the fire that happened on the 200 Block of Tyler Street. More information regarding this incident is expected to be released from the coroner's report in the coming days.
UPDATE 8:40 a.m. 1/11/2024: Athens Borough Fire Department confirmed to WENY News one person died in Wednesday night's house fire. The incident is under investigation and there is no other information available at this time.
ATHENS, PA (WENY) -- A house fire in Athens is under investigation after multiple departments across the Twin Tiers were called in to help Wednesday evening.
The fire happened on the 200 block of Tyler Street, sometime around 9:30 p.m.
Bradford County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeffrey Rosenheck said, "We did have some minor injuries with some firefighters, and they're OK now." When asked about injuries regarding the residents inside of the home in question, Rosenheck said the scene is still in "active firefighting operations" and that he cannot comment on any other injuries at this point in time.
Rosenheck said the cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigators have been requested to the scene. He said an official statement will be released by the fire department once crews clear the scene.
