WAVERLY, N.Y. (WENY) - The New York State Sportswriters Association released the 2023 All-State Football Teams for classes B through 8-man on Wednesday as two local student-athletes earned Player of the Year Honors.

Tioga quarterback Caden Bellis was named Player of the Year in Class D. Bellis threw for 1,350 yards and 28 touchdowns compared to just one interception. He also rushed for 743 yards and 12 touchdowns. Bellis helped lead Tioga to their third straight NYSPHSAA Class D State Title where the Tigers cruised past Stillwater, 63-14. For his career, Bellis has 3,873 passing yards with 67 touchdown passes and only 5 interceptions.

In Class C, Waverly quarterback Joey Tomasso was named Co-Player of the Year. He shares the award with Marek Arbogast of James O'Neill. Tomasso racked up 3,160 passing yards with 43 touchdowns and just three interceptions this season. He tallied 627 yards on the ground with 12 additional touchdowns. Tomasso was a major part of Waverly's first-ever state title where they beat Fonda-Fultonville, 46-26. The William & Mary signee finished his career with 7,252 yards with 85 touchdown passes.
