Big Flats residents raise concerns about parking during Tag's concerts
BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Town of Big Flats heard from concerned community members addressing an issue with parking at the Big Flats Community Park During a concert at Tags.
Residents say they were not aware an agreement was signed by the town that would allow for paid parking at Big Flats Community Park. The town previously had a five-year contract with Tags for parking at the public park.
"I don't feel it is the town's responsibility to provide parking for a private enterprise, a profit-making, private enterprise that costs the town," Big Flats Resident, Gordon Gardner says.
Questions are now being raised about how that money is being used. A new agreement would bring in a $1,000 per concert fee from 2024 to 2028 and $1,500 per concert from 2029 through 2033.
"Tags could be in violation for a while concert season, and you cannot cancel the contract until the end of the year," says Gardner.
Town Supervisor Lee GImmichele acknowledged the concerns but he said Tag's has not violated any agreement. The town board voted in favor of a new agreement regarding parking with Tag's for a ten-year term.
