Governor Hochul invites New Yorkers to start 2024 outdoors with a "First Day Hike"

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WENY) -- 2024 is fifteen days away and New York Governor Kathy Hochul is inviting and encouraging New Yorkers, statewide, to start the new year outside with the 13th annual "First Day Hike."
"I invite all New Yorkers to begin the New Year by experiencing New York's beautiful landscapes and enjoying the environmental and cultural legacy we call home," Governor Hochul says.
Hochul's press office says many State Parks, Historic Sites, Wildlife Areas, Canal Trails, and Public Land will be open on January 1st, 2024. The governor noted 80 locations across the state people can visit.
In the Finger Lakes, three locations can be visited:
- Bowman Lake State Park/McDonough State Forest, Oxford
- Catharine Valley Trail, Watkins Glen
- Chenango Valley State Park, Chenango Forks
- Clark Reservation State Park, Jamesville
- Delta Lake State Park, Rome
- Fort Ontario State Historic Site, Oswego
- Glimmerglass State Park, Cooperstown
- Green Lakes State Park, Fayetteville
- Hemlock-Canadice State Forest, Canadice
- Herkimer Home State Historic Site, Herkimer
- Montezuma Audubon Center, Savannah
- Newtown Battlefield State Park, Elmira
- Rogers Environmental Education Center, Sherburne
- Selkirk Shores State Park, Pulaski
- Seneca Lake State Park, Geneva
- Taughannock Falls State Park, Trumansburg
- Two Rivers State Park, Waverly
