TOWN OF CATLIN, N.Y. (WENY) -- A Wednesday night fire in Pine Valley is under investigation after the deceased homeowner was found inside.

State Police said the fire happened around 4:49 p.m. on Pine Valley Road. The home is located just off Route 14, Watkins Road.

Troopers said the Chemung County Coroner responded to the scene of the fire, and the remains of the homeowner will be examined. The homeowner was not identified by police.

The First Assistant Chief of the Millport Fire Department told WENY News that said one person, along with a cat, escaped the home. 

Investigators are now looking for the cause and origin of the fire.
