Ithaca man arrested for gouging someone's eye and later resisting arrest

ITHACA, NY (WENY) -- Ithaca Police Department says they arrested a man two weeks after he gouged someone's eye during an altercation. Police report that the victim lost their vision.
Stephen Whitaker, 35, of Ithaca, New York was served a felony warrant for his arrest and Ithaca Police located him in the 200 block of Cleveland Ave on December 9th around 5 p.m.
Officers say they attempted to arrest Whitaker and he tried to run from police. Authorities say he was stopped, and then he resisted arrest before being taken into custody.
Ithaca Police say there was a physical altercation that occurred during the arrest and an Officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were treated at a local medical facility.
Whitaker was charged with:
• Arrest Warrant: PL 120.05 (1): Assault in the Second Degree, a class D Felony
• New Charge: PL 205.30: Resisting Arrest, a class A Misdemeanor
