Shooting on Elmira's East Side
9AM UPDATE: The Victim has been released from the hospital. Investigation is still ongoing.
11:45PM UPDATE: Elmira police released information regarding Friday night's shooting.
EPD says officers were called to an apartment at 150 Harriet Street for a gunshot victim at approximately 6:10. When officers arrived, they found a male with a gunshot wound to the leg in a stairway outside the apartment. The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital, and Elmira police say he is stable.
Officers interviewed witnesses on the scene and gathered evidence, and say the investigation is ongoing. Police did not say if any arrests have been made.

8PM UPDATE: Elmira police confirm a gunshot victim was taken from the scene to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Their condition is unknown at this time.
Officers tell WENY News no one they were searching for was in the apartment when they went inside. People are now being allowed back into their apartments in the building.
7:30PM UPDATE: Officers in ballistic gear are preparing to entry into one of the apartments in the complex. Some of the officers could be seeing carrying rifles as they went up the stairs of the building.
Other officers are coming through the front yard of the residence, looking for evidence.
ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Multiple police officers from law enforcement agencies in Elmira and Chemung County are the scene of an active situation on Harriet Street in the city of Elmira.
Authorities were first called to the scene shortly after 6PM for reports of a gunshot victim. By 7PM, eight police were on scene, cordoning off the area. Officers were seen with ballistic shields, some with rifles, a loudspeaker and a spotlight.
Officers are focusing their attention on one apartment in the complex, and have surrounding streets blocked off. Around 7PM, officers began putting up crime scene tape in front of one of the buildings in the complex.
This is a developing story. WENY News has a crew on scene and is working to gather more information.
