ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A new business in Elmira Heights opened its doors on Sunday, December 3rd to welcome people into a new Juice Bar. Twenty-three-year-old Maleah Banks opened Juice Oasis because she was inspired after a trip to Hawaii.

"I actually went out to Hawaii with my business owners and just seeing how good they were doing, and how often people drink juice, [and] how good it makes you feel, definitely inspired me. The tropical vibe inspired me a lot and there are shops like this all over," said Banks.

With the numerous juice bars in Hawaii, she decided she wanted to open one of her own in the Southern Tier. Banks said she wanted to bring a healthy option to the area since she saw how healthy foods and drinks have a positive effect on people.

"All of the ingredients we use, we try to stay away from processed. So, we use raw honey, agave syrup, and then all of the fruits for the juices are sourced locally as well. [I] just wanted to give that freshness and that original value that makes you feel good and gives you happy thoughts," said Banks.

Currently, Banks offers juices and boba teas with popping bobas. She hopes to expand her drink menu and maybe add baked goods in the future.

"I get a lot of questions about coffee. I'm looking into doing that eventually, but with us being a juice bar, I definitely want to focus on the juice first. I want to keep up with what’s seasonal and local to the area. When it gets warmer, I think we’re definitely going to expand our menu a lot. I think there’s [still] more [of a] learning process to do, [and] that’s all the fun in it," said Banks.

Juice Oasis is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Juice Bar is located at 104C West 14th Street in Elmira Heights.

"This is a very exciting endeavor to be a business owner and to just bring something different and new to the town," said Banks.
