ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A new Chief of Police has been announced for the City of Ithaca. Mayor Lewis’s Office said Lt. Thomas Kelly of the Schenectady Police Department has been selected to serve as the Chief.

This is contingent upon the council’s vote on Dec. 9th, after two finalists were considered for the position.

The office said Lt. Kelly has 23 years of policing experience and he represented his agency for the Gun Involved Violence Elimination program, also known as GIVE. The program introduced new tactics in successful homicide investigations and partnered with state-wide agencies on crime investigations.

WENY News contacted the Ithaca Police Department to learn that Lt. Kelly should be starting his new role for the department as soon as Dec. 18th.
