One person shot after shooting in downtown Elmira
ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Elmira police had a portion of West Water Street blocked off in downtown Elmira, as multiple officers combed the area following a shooting Monday morning.
According to officers on scene, a victim was shot around 11 A.M. on Monday. The victim has been taken to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre and is stable.
Police tell WENY News it does not appear to be a random act; the alleged victim and the shooter likely knew each other.
This is a developing situation; WENY News will provide updates once they become available.
The Elmira Police Department is asking the public if they saw or know anything to contact them.
At the time, police closed off W. Water St. between College Avenue and North Main Street while they investigated the scene; the street re-opened to traffic shortly before noon.
