'Trunk-or-Treat' with the Elmwood Avenue Baptist Church of Elmira Heights
ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmwood Avenue Baptist Church of Elmira Heights is hosting trunk-or-treat tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The annual event will have treats for children including popcorn for those who are looking for a family-friendly event.
Reverend David Fike from the Baptist Church says the church hopes to serve as a resource for the community on Halloween day.
“We know a lot of families, they want to take their kids out and do the trick or treat thing. And a lot of parents, and I think to some extent rightly so, they're concerned about the safety issue” adding, “they want to make sure their kids are safe, they want to make sure that wherever they do go, that, you know, they're going to be greeted well, and they're going to be treated well.”
Members from the church helped organize the festivities with many giving a helping hand. Volunteers will be setting up their cars and decorating their trunks while giving out candy.
Reverend David says members enjoy getting together to set up the spooky celebrations.
“We're looking forward to having a lot of folks have free popcorn and we want to be a resource to the community with. Last week we had a rummage sale. This week we'll be doing a craft fair and we just want to, you know, have a, have a place where in the community where, you know, certainly they can come to worship, obviously, but we want to be more than that. We want to be a real resource to the community.”
