CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Chemung County's Sheriff's office is collecting unused medications as part of the nationwide Drug “Take Back” Initiative.

They are accepting expired or unused medications, including ointments, sprays and sharps.  The Sheriff's Office says they should be kept in their original container with the label on, but it is okay if the recipient's name is blacked out.

This will be happening October 28th from 10AM to 2PM.  The medications can be dropped off at the West Elmira Volunteer Fire Department, or the Southport Volunteer Fire Department.

The West Elmira Volunteer Fire Department is located at 1299 W Water St, Elmira, NY 14905.

The Southport Volunteer Fire Department is located at 1001 Carl St, Elmira, NY 14904.
