CHEMUNG COUNTY (WENY) -- The Chemung County Health Department is holding  a free rabies clinic for all pet owners. cats, dogs, and ferrets who are three months of age or older. All pets must arrive on a leash or in a carrier.

Pet owners must also bring proof of prior rabies vaccination if they're looking to receive a three-year certificate for their pets.

The vaccination clinics will be offered Oct. 12th at the Erin Town Hall from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The second date for the rabies clinic will be held Oct. 19th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Chemung Town Hall.

The New York State Sanitary Code and Public Health Law requires vaccinating all cats, dogs, and ferrets to avoid rabies. Those who fail to comply can be fined up to $200.

Pre-registration is required for all attending and members of the community can contact the organizers by calling the Chemung County Health Department at 737-2019 or through email EHS@chemungcountyny.gov.
