BX Player Development grand opening at Waverly Sports Complex
Waverly, N.Y. (WENY) - On Wednesday a ribbon cutting signified a new partnership between BX Player Development and Waverly Sports Complex.
BX Player Development was created in 2004 by Rob Baxter, who is the spear-head for the athletic training program. In the workout program, Baxter trains student-athletes to help them reach their performance goals within their sport.
Based in Binghamton--Baxter spoke about how exciting this new location is and what it will bring to the Twin Tiers. "To have it right here for the kids at Waverly, Tioga, Sayre, Athens and down into Elmira, Horseheads and Corning is really cool," Baxter said. "People are paying their money, they're spending their time, they want to make sure that what they're doing is safe, what they're doing is valuable. It's going to help them, you know, whatever their goals may be. Whether it would be just to get on that high school varsity team, or go to college or maybe even get a college scholarship--we've had a hand in doing all of that stuff so, we look at ourselves as a great resource.
In the training facility, Baxter has a banner of all of the Section IV student-athletes that are currently playing on Division I teams. He believes showing the athletes he's currently training, his former athletes, will keep them motivated and show them that even though they are from small towns, they can be successful too.
Waverly Football Head Coach, Jason Miller, talked about how this new partnership will directly help local student athletes.
"This is a great facility to, you know, if they can't get into the weight room after school, they can't get in with training regiment that they can come down here and use this great facility, " Miller said. "There's a lot of space, obviously the weights and Bobby (Rob) does a great job working on speed and agility."
Baxter will be at the Waverly Sports Complex twice a week for the time being to train local athletes.
