CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Fall has arrived with the corning museum of glass diving right into the season in style. Most famous for its glass blowing demonstrations daily, the museum is now hosting demonstrations with an autumn twist. Guests now through November have the chance to make their own glass pumpkin.  Ranging from all shapes, colors, and sizes, we captured a closer look at how one is made.

"We have a melting furnace in this shop that holds about a thousand pounds of molten glass at two thousand one hundred degrees so the larger you make something the more gathers you are gonna have to make, I just made one gather I coated it with some nice orange color and I'll let this cool and go and get a second gather." explains senior manager of Hot Glass Programs and MarCom Operations Eric Meek.

After blowing it is placed in a bowl to help start making a pumpkin shape, then straight into the mold it goes.

"We're going to give it the pumpkin stripe so we have a mold that's made of castle aluminum and I'll blow the glass down into that mold and it'll really take on the shape of that alright here we go."

After a few more minutes of fine tuning and blowing a pumpkin begins to form.

"This is actually going to be the bottom of the pumpkin we're going to transfer it onto a finishing rod and then we'll work on adding the stem at the top which everyone loves."

After a quick transfer of rods its time for the icing on the cake to put on the stem which up close can be seen as one word magic.

After watching eric perform his demonstration the experience looked too enticing so i decided to give it a go.

As I entered the glass blowing studio I was first greeted with an introduction.

"The first thing your going to do is come up your going to pick your project colors all of that we'll give you some safety glasses and then you'll come and make your project with one of us." says MYOG Workshop Associate Allison Burrell.

Then its off to the fun I told Allison the two colors I chose, blue and a clear stem from there its off to work.

Goggles on and all as Allison prepped I was in charge of blowing after puff after puff a blue pumpkin was slowly coming to life and within just a short few minutes a final product was born with a smile to boot.

Glass pumpkin making is open now until November 20th. Tickets are $34 a piece. To book an appointment click here.
