ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Street Dog Coalition offered free veterinary care for the pets of people who are experiencing or at the risk of homelessness in Ithaca Monday. People could bring their dogs and cats to Shaggy Dog Grooming to be checked out by vets.

The vets provided vaccines, preventative care, nail trims, and basic exams. The services were completely free, and the street dog coalition is proud of the services they provide to the community.

“We find for the people that we are treating their animals, that they really don't have the money to take care of these animals.  It doesn't mean that they shouldn't have these animals, they're really important to them, sometimes it's all they have is these animals, and you can tell when we talk to these people how much it means to them to take care of them and just help them when they need help,” said Jeremy Eule, a doctor of vet medicine at Street Dog Coalition.

The Street Dog Coalition offers this service on the first Monday of every month at Shaggy Dog Grooming in Ithaca. Shaggy Dog Grooming is located at 411 Old Taughannock Boulevard, Ithaca, NY, 14850. More information about the Street Dog Coalition can be found here.
