Emergency Crews Respond to Fire in Elmira
ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Multiple emergency crews are on the scene of a fire at an apartment home in the city of Elmira.
Scanner reports initially came in as a house explosion shortly before 1:30PM at a home on West Gray Street, near the intersection with Davis Street. When WENY's reporter arrived on scene, heavy flames were seen coming out of the rear of the home, which was still intact.
According to Elmira Fire Chief Andrew Mallow, the fire took place in the attic and back section of the home, on the second floor. He also said he believes everyone who was in the home at the time of the fire is accounted for.
Elmira Code Enforcement, NYSEG, and fire departments with the city of Elmira and West Elmira are on scene, as well as two ambulances.
West Gray Street is blocked off from Davis to Columbia Streets, and Davis Street is also shut down between West Water to West Church Streets.
This is a developing story. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
