CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Corning Community College officially kicked off their 2023 semester yesterday with many students excited for what the new year has to offer.

"Learning more about the area and the people that I've met its a lot of great people here I'm just excited to experience a lot of new things." says sophomore Marley Lippitt.

College can be a transition so for others its important to meet as many people as possible and engage in the community.

"Looking forward to getting out of my shell and meeting other people cause college is a different animal when it comes to high school and stuff." says freshman Darian Palmer.

"One thing I'm looking forward to is the community here I feel like there's a lot more engagement this semester as an RA I've been getting out more socializing more, just getting the student perspective on campus and I think also the professors do a great job of maintaining that community there always very vocal about their concerns for the students." says sophomore Jordan Hassinger.

Corning community college continues to thrive on stem education and is looking to continue expand that this year.

"We remain all in on stem education so very excited that we're able to provide new equipment for some of our key stem education programs mechatronics mechanical electrical engineering machining these are the programs that students are able to enroll in and either transfer to a four year school or jump right into the workforce." says president William Mullaney

For those who may be thinking about enrolling in community college to start their college career but are on the fence about it sophomore Richard Harper shares his advice on why he believes its a good idea.

"It's a little smaller there's a better feel for it I know people like bigger schools but I know personally about ccc we have tutors on staff and i could not of prospered last semester without them like I knew no math I forgot everything and they literally helped me get a b in that class and they helped me make the presidents list without those guys." says sophomore Richard Harper.

President Mullaney adds, "its just a really nice option for those not only kids right out of high school but returning students who come and figure out am I interested in re careering upskilling in my career so just a nice opportunity to get their feet wet once again working with our faculty who are skilled instructors and sort of give them the hands on attention that they need."
