BATH, N.Y. (WENY) - New York State Police are investigating a crash in which a Steuben County Sheriff's Deputy hit a bicyclist early Saturday morning while responding to a call.

The crash happened around 3:15 AM in Bath on State Route 415.

Police say the rider of the bicycle was traveling in the driving lane when they were struck from behind by the deputy. After the crash, the bicyclist as alert, but was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Sheriff James Allard said he requested the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit respond to investigate the collision.

Allard also asked anyone on a bicycle to remember to use lights and reflective equipment when riding at night.
