UPDATE: Newfield man dead after motorcycle crash in Erwin
UPDATE FROM 10:10 A.M. 08/03/2023 -- According to New York State Police in Painted Post, 70-year-old Joseph Hollander died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash. He was heading westbound on State Route 417 in the town of Erwin around 10 a.m. on August 2nd, when police say a group of deer entered the road and into Hollander's path.
Hollander tried to swerve to avoid the group of deer but wasn't able to, and hit a deer and was ejected from his motorcycle. Hollander was transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania where he later died.
ERWIN, N.Y. (WENY) - A motorcycle crash Wednesday morning in Painted Post sent one person to the hospital.
According to a reporter on the scene, one lane of traffic was briefly closed and a medical helicopter was called in to airlift the rider of the motorcycle to the hospital. According to New York State Police there is still no word on their condition.
The crash happened on Route 417 near Beartown Road near a Corning Inc. facility. According to D.O.T. officials on the scene, the crash was caused by a deer. State police say they are handling the investigation, which they said is ongoing.
