ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) - After a stellar 2023 season, Edison baseball player Ashton Colunio is set to compete at the collegiate level.

"Colunio signed to play for Wells College on Tuesday.

This was Ashton's first year with Edison where he had an on-base percentage of over .800. Colunio played a major role in the Spartans' 16-2 season where they won the IAC Small School Championship and made it to the Section IV Class C Semifinals. Ashton will also join Elmira grads, Max and Zack Odum who just finished their junior season with the Wells baseball program.

Colunio says he plans to major in Sports Marketing and Business at Wells, and he is thrilled to get on campus.

"It's a moment I never thought I would really have, or a chance or an opportunity to ever do, but I want to thank my friends and family and my parents for helping me get to the point where I am and all my coaches and Edison High School and also Notre Dame," Colunio said. "I'm going to cherish all of the friendships and all the love I had here at this school, a lot of good people that I became really close with over baseball and I'm going to miss them all but it's the next step and it's good for me."

"He loves the game of baseball, he works really hard at it, so I'm really really proud of him and happy that he's moving on," said Edison Head Coach, Chris Bennett. "It's great for our program too, to have another kid move on to play college baseball. It gives the younger guys something to keep working for."
