BIG FLATS, NY (WENY) -- Tag's Summer Stage, which has welcomed major acts for the past three decades, is celebrating is 30th anniversary with a special event on June 16th.

Owner "Tag" Rhodes said he purchased what was a tavern on Route 352 in Big Flats, not far from his childhood home. He said he never envisioned at the time what it would become.

"I just thought I was buying a small bar in a small town," explained Rhodes. "Everything from there grew organically. I wasn't smart enough to pre-plan, it was just week to week, month to month, pay the bills, oh and by the way, let's try to do some music now and then."

Over time, Tag began to expand the space, from a small stage a larger one, to the Tag's Summer Stage that stands today. Over the decades, Tag has hosted acts of the likes of Charlie Daniels, B.B. King, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Joan Jett, among hundreds of others.

Tag said in the early days, it wasn't easy to book acts to come to Big Flats, due to booking agents not familiar with the small town or venue.

"'Who are you again?' I got a lot of that. It was very, very difficult to start out with. But I was tenacious, I was young, I was aggressive, and finally, probably the name that got me some respect was Charlie Daniels. So once I could say Charlie Daniels played here, and some of the other bands played here, I got a little bit more respect and I wouldn't be on hold for an hour, hour and a half, and they'd start taking my calls a little more frequently," Tag explained.

In honor of its 30 years of music, Tag's will host Tusk - the World's #1 Fleetwood Mac tribute band. The event also features a video montage of music history at Tag's, featuring acts that have taken the stage over the last 30 years. There will also be games, giveaways, and more.

Looking ahead at the years to come, Tag says he and his team are continually striving to improve the guest experience at the venue, and will always be looking to bring quality music to the area.

Tickets for the 30th anniversary celebration are $30 each, and are buy one, get one free. The event begins at 7:15PM with the video montage, and the night caps off with fireworks at 9:30PM.
