Elmira Little League Baseball Team hosts fundraiser
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira Little League Baseball Team hosted its first fundraiser on Sunday afternoon at the Norm Hatch Memorial Field. The event was a way to raise money to improve the fields and sound system and add lights so kids could play at night.
"Hopefully we’ll get enough money to redo the fields completely. We would like to redo both fields completely. So, no divots, and the mounds and stuff will be fixed," said fundraiser organizer, Erica Ward.
To help raise money, there was a dunk tank, a cake wheel, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle.
Vendors at the event and Mr. Twists Ice Cream donated a portion of its proceeds to the Little League Team.
"Summer is here and if they’re not here, they’re sitting at home, playing video games. I’m a nurse, and being out and active is important to me. It’s important to their health," said Ward.
Ward wanted to thank everyone who helped with Sunday's fundraiser. She said it takes a community to keep this going.
She also said the event helped raise just over $4,600 for the Elmira Little League Team.
