Corning man arrested for sexual assault

CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Corning Police Department received a complaint on Wednesday of an alleged sexual assault that took place on May 23rd, 2023.
Corning Police said 38-year-old Demetrius Goree, of Corning, has been charged with one count of Predatory Sexual Assault, one count of Rape in the First Degree, and one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.
Corning Police said an investigation was conducted and it was revealed that the suspect allegedly approached the 17-year-old female victim and started a conversation, using a false name. Police said it is alleged that this incident continued into the night at Mr. Goree's home, where the suspect was given alcohol and cannabis.
During the investigation, Corning Police said it was determined that Goree is currently a registered level 3 Sex Offender in New York State. It was also determined that Goree is currently on New York State Parole, having been recently released from a New York State prison in March of 2023, after being convicted of Attempted Rape in the Second Degree in Tompkins County, New York.
Goree has been remanded to the Steuben County Jail on no bail.
