ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Clemens Center is gearing up to raise the Curtain for the 2023 and 2024 Broadway Series. While Summer is two weeks away, the theatrical series will get everyone excited for the fall launch in September. 

“The 2023, [20]24 Broadway series hosted by M&T Bank. Starting in September, with "Jesus Christ Superstar," the 50th anniversary, if you can believe it,” shares Executive Director of the Clemens Center, Karen Cromer.  

The original production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” has been revamped. For those who saw the original version of the musical, it's been updated for modern times. As the season opener, the show will take Powers Theater Stage on September 29th and 30th. The Clemens Center shared that this season, there are shows for all ages. 

“For the most part, they are pretty mature subject matters. "Mama Mia!" will be more pre-teen I would think, "Come From Away," I think will be family-friendly, but will be a heavy subject matter. "Jesus Christ Superstar" again, I think it's up to parents to look at the show to determine whether that is a good fit for the age of children they have in their household,” Cromer mentioned.  

Other shows on the calendar for the upcoming season include "Mamma Mia!," "Come from Away," "The Cher Show," and "Shrek the Musical." The Clemens Center also has a full line-up of shows for school-aged kids, ranging from “The Velveteen Rabbit” to a showing of "The Express: The Ernie Davis Story.”  

Before 'Jesus Christ Superstar' kicks off its national tour, the cast, and crew will be teching their show in Elmira; working out every step of the production. 

" ‘The Jesus Christ Superstar,’ cast and crew will be here starting in mid-September. They will run through every cue of their performance from beginning to end over and over,” Cromer highlights.

  • ‘Mama Mia!’ October 26th and 27th 
  • ‘Come From Away” January 8th and 9th 
  • ‘The Cher Show’ February 7th and 8th 
  • ‘Shrek The Musical May 7th and 8th
