Police: Elmira man arrested on gun charge after foot chase

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Elmira man has been arrested on a weapons charge after police say he threw a weapon in an attempt to dispose of it during a foot chase with officers.
According to the Elmira Police Department (EPD), 31-year-old Quayshaun Hubbard was pulled over near Linden Place and Lake Street on Monday night. Officers said that Hubbard ran from his car and attempted to discard a handgun that was in his waistband.
Police said the reason why he was stopped in the first place is because there was an incident in Southport where someone allegedly displayed a handgun at Chapel Park. The reported incident happened a short time before Hubbard was pulled over. Officers said they had a description of the car that they were looking for.
Police say Hubbard is a parolee who had previously been convicted on a gun charge.
For the Monday night incident, Hubbard was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, a felony.
