ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Elmira man was charged with attempted murder after police say they found two victims with "multiple wounds" and the suspect holed up inside of a home with a knife.
According to Elmira Police, 44-year-old Michael G. Burchard was charged with attempted murder.
Police say they were called out to a home on the 200 block of West Chemung Place on Friday afternoon around 2:45p.m. When officers arrived, they said they found two victims on the front porch of the home with "multiple wounds". Officers said they learned that the suspect was still inside of the home and armed with a knife. Elmira Police said the suspect, Burchard, was taken into custody peacefully after officers negotiated for him to surrender.
Both victims were taken to area hospitals and are expected to recover, police say.
The Elmira Police Department said if anyone has any further information regarding this case should contact (607) 737-5626, or the tipline at (607) 271-HALT.
In an email, EPD said a mugshot for Burchard was not available for unavoidable circumstances, and will be released at a later time.
