HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) - It's that time of the year when the gardening is in progress, but we can not rule out the possibility of damaging frost. For many gardeners, frost can be the knell of all their hard work. Unfortunately, First Warning Weather is predicting widespread frost overnight Wednesday as temperatures are likely to drop into the low 30s and upper 20s.  Bryson Clark, the owner of Upstate Hydroponics and Garden Supply said using a reemay cloth is the best method one can take to prevent frost from harming plants.

''You can use a reemay or a light cloth like a bed sheet. Be sure to put some stakes in so you do not collapse the plant. If it is a low lying plant, you can bury them in a straw,'' said Mr. Clark.

Reemay is a cloth-like fabric, which helps retain heat during times of cold weather as it lets in 75% of all sunlight. If you cannot find a reemay cloth, a bed sheet can also get the work done. Mr. Clark said that the best way to prevent your garden from, damaging frost is by waiting until Memorial Day to get the garden going.
