'Person of Interest' Sought in Tompkins Co. Homicide

LANSING, NY (WENY) -- The Tompkins County Sheriff's office is asking for the public's help in locating a man from Lansing, in connection to the death of another man in March.
Authorities say they're looking for 52-year-old Larry R. Walrad, Jr., who they are calling a "person of interest" in a homicide investigation from March.
On the morning of March 5th, deputies responded to an address on Mill Street in Lansing for a reported unattended death. The victim was identified as 71-year-old Joseph F. West, Jr. of Ithaca. The sheriff's office says due to circumstances seen by the deputies, they contacted the Criminal Investigation Division and Tompkins County Medical Examiner's Office for a more thorough investigation.
The Sheriff's Office says recent results of a forensics autopsy of West, Jr. included the manner of death to be a homicide.
They're asking anyone who might know the whereabouts of Larry Walrad, Jr. to contact the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, at 607-257-1345, or the anonymous tipline at 607-266-5420. People who know Walrad's real-time location are asked to call 911 immediately.
WENY News archives show Walrad pleaded guilty to a 2015 to assault in Tompkins County, in which he violently assaulted a woman he knew, and refused to seek medical care for her. He was sentenced to five years in prison, but released in 2019. His post release supervision term expired in August 2022.
