HERRICK TOWNSHIP, PA (WENY) -- Pennsylvania State Police say an armed teenaged male from Bradford County is dead after being shot by a Pennsylvania State Trooper on the night of Thursday, May 4th in Herrickville around 5:00 P.M.

According to police the teenager, who had a handgun, was confronted in a wooded area and was given multiple verbal orders to surrender.

State Police say the teen would not follow the orders and presented himself as an "imminent threat," resulting in one officer firing his weapon and striking the teen. The teenager would later die at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre as a result of his injuries.

Police say they rendered aid at the scene prior to his transport. State Police is investigating along with the Bradford County District Attorney's Office. PSP says the trooper involved has been placed on administrative duty service, which is protocol and is not to be considered as punishment.
