UPDATE: 04/26/23 11 a.m. -- The Wellsburg Fire Department confirmed to WENY News that four dogs died during the fire as a result of smoke inhalation. A fifth dog is currently under the care of a veterinarian. 

According to the fire officials, while the cause of the fire is under investigation, it is not believed to be suspicious. 


WELLSBURG, N.Y. (WENY) -- A home on Berwick Turnpike in Wellsburg was damaged after a fire broke out around 2:45 Tuesday afternoon.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Ryan Coles, said there were pets who were injured. There's no word yet on the condition of those pets.

Chief Coles said the home sustained damages on the first floor. The scene was cleared by 6 PM.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Wellsburg Fire Department was assisted on scene by fire crews from Southport, Chemung,and Ridgebury.
