ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Ithacon wrapped up its two-day event at the Campus Center at Ithaca College this weekend. Ithacon, a combination of Ithaca and Comic-Con, is a place to buy comic books, Funko Pops, and meet comic book artists.

"I just love coming to Ithaca because I get to meet people like Joe and the other artists I've known over the years. I'll keep coming back as long as I can," said comic book artist, Joe Orsak.

Orsak had been going to Ithacon since its ninth event and has been a comic book artist for nearly 50 years.

"(In 2020) It (Ithacon) was canceled the week before the show so we couldn't do anything about that one. The following year, we did Ithacon from home, so it was an online convention, but we don't count it, and then we resumed last year with number 45 so this is number 46," said one of the founders of Ithacon, Bill Turner.

Many people helped organize Ithacon, which includes Ithaca College students in the promoting and managing conventions class. Noah Scott is a senior at Ithaca College, and he and his classmates helped attract guests and community members to the event.

Scott said he's proud of the work he did this year to help organize this year's convention. He added, "From a fan's perspective, it's a lot of fun walking around collecting comic books, meeting some of the artists; some of the writers that you want to meet, but it also in a working standpoint, it takes a lot of work."

Ithacon is a place where people can be creative, whether it's by dressing up or drawing superheroes.

"It's all about fandoms that we very much embrace. Ithacon is the nation's second-largest running and continuous comic convention, and we take great pride in that," said Instructor Ed Catto.

Organizers like Catto and Turner said they're excited about next year's convention. Ithacon will take place on April 27th and 28th.
