ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- A 27-year-old Elmira man is in jail on attempted murder charges, following a stabbing at a bar on the city's south side early Sunday morning.

Police charged Avontae Wilson with second degree attempted murder, after he allegedly stabbing an employee of Kahuna's bar on Luce Street.  Elmira police responded to a call at Kahuna's at 1:00AM, for a report that a patron had stabbed an employee. When officers arrived, they found the victim had been stabbed multiple times in the head and neck. The male employee was taken to the hospital by ambulance; his condition was not disclosed.

Officers gathered information about the suspect's identity, and began a search. New York State Police canvassing the area located Wilson a few blocks away, and took him into custody without incident. 

Wilson was arraigned in Elmira City Court and sent to the Chemung County jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail.
