ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Students at Elmira College are inviting the public to help veterans secure companion pets. The program, known as "Get a Vet a Pet," aims to support the mental and physical well-being of veterans throughout the Twin Tiers.

An upcoming fundraiser is the "Get a Vet a Pet 5K Run," which will be held on Sunday, May 21 in Eldridge Park. Elmira College students are still looking for both runners and volunteers from the public. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the run start time happening at 9 a.m.

In addition to the race, the event will feature food, yard games and music. Registration costs $30, and runners must sign up by May 21 here. Volunteers interested in helping run the event can email [email protected].
