Police in Chemung County recover stolen guns, some remain missing

VETERAN, N.Y. (WENY) -- A 40-year-old Van Etten man was arrested on burglary charges after allegedly stealing a large number of guns, coins and other valuables from a home in Veteran earlier this month. Kyle Menio is the second arrest in the case, with Shawn Mistifer of Veteran already having been arrested.
According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, police were able to recover all of the handguns that were stolen. While most of the rifles and shot guns were also recovered, police say some long guns remain unaccounted for. A large amount of jewelry and coins were also recovered.
Police say the presence of a neighbor caused the suspects to flee the scene, causing them to leave evidence behind that helped identify one of the people allegedly involved. Additional arrests are expected as the Sheriff's Department continues the investigation.
