Accumulating Snows Possible for Tuesday

A 2-phased storm system will bring the opportunity for accumulating snows to the Twin Tiers. Phase 1 of the storm will arrive Sunday evening from the west, bringing scattered rain and snow showers to the region. A slippery commute is anticipated for the Monday morning commute, but warmer conditions Monday afternoon should lead to more in the way of rain showers. Accumulations of Phase 1 will generally be around 1" and largely elevation-dependent. Phase 2 of the storm will arrive late Monday into the day Tuesday. An area of low pressure will strengthen off the coast near New York City. This will draw cold air into place for Tuesday. The storm will intensify over the Atlantic waters, providing heavy snows east of the Twin Tiers. The exact track of the coastal system will ultimately determine accumulation totals for us here in the Twin Tiers. A farther west track means more significant accumulation for us. A farther east track means less in the way of accumulation for us. Essentially, the farther east you are in the Twin Tiers, the more opportunity you have to see a plowable snow. Stick with the WENY First Warning Weather Team over the next few days as the exact track of this storm system becomes more clear.
