Dunn Field will be getting upgraded
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- During the Elmira City Council meeting on Monday night, many resolutions were passed - including one that would upgrade the stadium at Dunn Field.
"A few years ago, the city had a study done just to see what types of improvements needed to be made," said Elmira City Manager, Michael Collins.
Collins said the city of Elmira was awarded $28,000,000 from the American Rescue Plan (ARP). Once the city received funding from the American Rescue Plan, "we did have a recommendation that we would set aside x amount of money for round one, and x amount of money for round two for Dunn Field," said Collins.
In the City Council meeting, resolution 2023-76 was passed which included the fee of $34,000 to be paid to the Hunt Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors & Landscape Architect DPC (Hunt).
"They’ll come back with a report depending on what needs to be done, and in that report, it will show the dollar amount that needs to be spent," said Collins.
When asked why Dunn Field needed upgrades, Collins said it's because Dunn Field is an icon(ic) (place) in Elmira.
"We have an individual who runs a very positive program and gets people in (the mood) for the baseball season. We're not going to make everybody happy, but I do believe Dunn Field is an asset to the city of Elmira and that’s why we chose to set aside money from ARP to allow that to continue within the city," said Collins.
Collins said if there are upgrades that can be completed before the start of the season, it will happen. He also added if there are upgrades that will take an extensive period of time, that those will be completed after the season is over.
