WAVERLY, N.Y. (WENY) - Waverly High School football quarterback Joey Tomasso was recently named the top dual-threat quarterback for the class of 2024 in New York State by QB Hit List. He explained that part of being a dual threat is understanding the system.

"It's definitely the combination of being able to pass and run and get out of the pocket and throw on the run," Tomasso said. "But, definitely when our coaches have designed scrambles and designed quarterback runs in our offense."

Joey was also ranked the 83rd-best dual-threat quarterback in the country for his class and surpassed Peyton Miller for the Waverly school record in career passing yards.

As a member of the Wolverines basketball team, Tomasso scored his 1,000th career point earlier this season. While still receiving recognition for his achievements on the football field, Tomasso's focus right now is on playoff basketball.

"We had a long break, so we are trying to ramp up practice," Joey said. "We had a dual scrimmage with Corning and Athens just a few days ago.  So, we have been trying to stay as intense as possible and trying to recreate game-like situations.

Making it as the three seed in our section is a really good seed for  Coach  (Lou) Judson.  I think it is one of his best ever.  Hopefully, we put ourselves in a position to play in the championship game for the section. That would be great"
