Inmate Attacks Staff at Elmira Correctional Facility

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - An inmate attacked and injured staff at the Elmira Correctional Facility on Sunday.
According to NYSCOPBA, the corrections officers union, two officers began to conduct a random search of an inmate. NYSCOPBA says the inmate initially followed orders and sat in a chair, but soon after, he jumped out of the chair and punched the officers in the face.
NYSCOPBA said the officers forced the inmate to the ground with two other officers coming to help.
The inmate was put in handcuffs and was placed in a special housing unit.
The officers who initially responded were treated by medical staff and remained on duty. The other two officers were brought to Arnot Ogden Medical Center for treatment and did not return to duty.
