Local artist running for Elmira City Council
(WENY) -- An artist in the Elmira community hopes to take his vision to Elmira City Council. Sam Somostrada announced Monday his plans to run for the Elmira City Council's 2nd District.
“I want to see the City Council is serving the people that they represent,” Somostrada said.
The local artist has done a handful of mural projects through the Community Arts of Elmira. He was inspired to run after seeing surveillance cameras installed around the city, and couldn't find more information about them online.
I want to think of the stars when I think of Elmira,” Somostrada said, adding, “I want to think of transparency, accessibility, responsibility.”
Somostrada still needs to get endorsed for an official party at this time. He hopes to run under the Democratic or working-class ticket.
