Community First makes an effort to end violence
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- In an effort to aid in the healing of the grieving, Family Affairs is hosting a dinner for those who lost a loved one to violence this Saturday at Steele Memorial Library. The goal is to bring community together and celebrate these young lives.
“It is important that we start caring about each other when tragic happens. It is important that we say we love each other sometimes without anything happening again to anybody,” shared Sean White the Founder and CEO of Family Affairs.
White lost two children to violence several years back and wants to create a dialogue for the people of Elmira who have faced similar tragedy. He thinks talking down to kids and teens will only make a lot of issues worse.
"I am trying to hope and pray that I can talk to some these young kids to stop them from killing each other," White said.
With an overarching goal of ending violence, Family Affairs is designed to remind people facing unimaginable tragedy that they are not alone and that the community supports them.
"I want to show people I love them, and Elmira loves them,” White says.
Family Affairs event be held at the Steele Memorial Library in Elmira from noon to 5 p.m. Limited tickets are available and advanced registration is required. Contact (607)-333-2645 or (646)-363-7086 to register.
