ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A packed court-room filled with on-duty officers and family members watched as the Elmira police department promoted four lieutenants and two new captains on Friday. Each family members received the chance for their spouse or kids to pin a new badge on-to their uniform. 

“It was a little, it was fun.  I was looking forward to this portion of it so we have this is a thing we usually follow, and I think it went smoothly. I thought it went well,” said Acting Chief Kris Thorne. 

Erica Lapierre was one of four members of the force who were promoted to lieutenant.  She is paving the way for her department becoming the first female lieutenants with the Elmira P.D. Lt. Lapierre said it was an honor to share the moment with her family, adding she is happy to continue serving her community. 

“It means a lot. It was a lot of hard work. I am very honored and grateful to be given this opportunity and I definitely have to thank the women that came before me in Elmira P.D.,” said Lapierre. 

Thorne led the celebration, which was held at the Elmira Police Department in the Large Court Room. Lapierre said she felt privileged to have her kids pin the badge on her uniform.  

“Honestly my kids have a very proud mom so it was nice to be able to get them out of school early and have them here to do that,” said Lapierre.
