Odessa-Montour's Keyonna Garrison recovering from stroke
ODESSA, N.Y. (WENY) - Last Thursday, Odessa-Montour student-athlete, Keyonna Garrison suffered a stroke, and is now on the road to recovery.
Garrison, who is 16 years old, suffered a stroke due to issues with her vertebral artery. She was initially treated at Corning Guthrie Hospital before being transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where she spent time in the ICU. However, Odessa-Montour Athletic Director and girls basketball Head Coach, Greg Gavich shared encouraging news with WENY that Keyonna was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday night and is heading home. The Grizzlies lost their game to Edison, but with the positive news about Garrison, Gavich said "That's our win."
Garrison has been undergoing neurological tests as well as physical therapy to recover her motor skills.
A GoFundMe page has been created to assist the family with medical expenses. Keyonna has received a lot of support with the donation amount over $14,000 as of Tuesday night. The initial goal of the fund was $3,000.
WENY wishes Keyonna the best on her road to recovery.
