Officer Injured at Elmira Correctional Facility

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - An officer was treated at a hospital for injuries and blood exposure after an incident at the Elmira Correctional Facility last month.
According to NYSCOPBA, the incident occurred on December 29th. Officials say an officer was spit on by an inmate from his cell. The officer then opened the cell door to bring the inmate to a special housing unit.
NYSCOPBA says that when the officer entered the cell, the inmate punched the officer multiple times in the face.
Officials say the officer grabbed the inmate, forced him to the ground, and put handcuffs on him.
The officer was treated by on site medical staff and was brought to Arnot Ogden Medical Center for treatment of right eye swelling and pain.
The inmate is serving a three year sentence after being convicted in Richmond County in 2022 for Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
