Outgoing Elmira city councilmember receives key to the city and proclamation
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY)-- Councilmember Brent Stermer who represents Elmira's 2nd district has been elected to the Chemung County Legislature. He will be leaving the Elmira City Council on December 31st officially.
Brent has served as a Councilmember for the city of Elmira for 11 years.
At Monday's city council meeting Stermer was given a key to the city of Elmira along with a proclamation, making December 31st Brent Stermer day in the City of Elmira.
Elmira City Mayor, Daniel Mandell spoke highly of Stermer at the meeting and says he has accomplished a lot for the city and deserves to be recognized for his outstanding work.
"Three terms on the city council. He's done a lot of good things for the city. So it's the least we could do for Brent and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors, Mandell said.
Stermer explained he is excited to be elected to represent Elmira's 11th district and is ready to get to work.
"I am going to work my hardest to make sure that that district becomes identified as a river district. So with restaurants and green spaces and trying to improve neighborhoods and communities along the river," Stermer said.
Mayor Mandell added the city council will continue to work with Brent in his new role representing the 11th Legislative district.
