ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - Six officers were injured during the first two weeks of December in three separate attacks at the Elmira Correctional Facility.

The first assault occurred on December 2nd.

According to NYSCOPBA, a staff member asked an inmate to leave his cell. The union said the inmate refused, pulled out a cell phone and attempted to flush it down the toilet.

The inmate then charged the officer, pushing him backwards, and punched him in the face.

The second assault occurred on December 6th.

Officials say an inmate left the mess hall after with unauthorized food, at which the inmate struck one of the officers multiple times in the face. Two officers then forced him to the ground with the help of a third officer.

Three days later on December 9th, two officers were injured when an inmate elbowed an officer in the face.

All of the officers involved were treated by medical staff at the prison and remained on duty according to NYSCOPBA.
