ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY)-- Three Elmira women turned 100, 102, and 104 years old. It's a day they didn't imagine they would live to see so it was definitely cause for celebration!  They celebrated their birthdays back in October at the Chemung County Nursing Facility.

"It was a beautiful party, it was very nice," Jane Collins Deyoe said. She is the oldest of this happy golden gal group. She turned 104 years old.

Deyoe was born in Towanda in 1918 and moved to Elmira with her family. The secret to her longevity is having a good support system.

"Nice family and friends that always helps," Deyoe said.

Her biggest life lesson she simply explains is being kind to people. She is thankful for the nurses at the facility and the care they provide her.

"Being nice to all these girls, they're all so good to help us," Deyoe said.

Edna May Taylor originally from Quincy Florida moved to Elmira at a young age. She's the baby of the group. She loves fashion but loves to dance even more.  For years she worked in a law office and then for the Fitamins in Horseheads.  Edna shares the same sentiments as Jane about the birthday festivities.

"It was beautiful, I enjoyed it very much," Taylor said.

The secret to Ms. Edna's longevity is treating others the way you would like to be treated.

"Doing the right thing. Do unto others like you would have them do unto you. That's one thing I believe in," Taylor said.

Taylor is known in the Elmira Community for being a great cook. She says word spread quickly around town about her finger-licking meals.

"They got the word out, if you go to my house you'll never leave hungry, they always said that Taylor explained.

She has two sons, the oldest is in his eighties.  Taylor also has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although she doesn't remember the exact amount, she says it's too many to remember.

"Ummmm, Lisa, Cheryl, Tasha. I should've written it done. A whole lot," she said.

Betty Hatfield is 102. When first asked how old she was, she said she couldn't remember.

"When you get as old as I am you forget how old you are," Hatfield said.

Hatfield worked for Westinghouse for 10 years. She is one of six children. The secret to her longevity is her faith in God and living the good life.

"I lived a good life. We went to Sunday school and church. There were six of us growing up and we had to learn to give and take," Hatfield said.

She was also a member of a square dancing travel team with her husband.

"We traveled to Hawaii to square dance, it was beautiful," Hatfield said.

Deyoe also shared her love for the Yankees. She named her cat after the team.

Taylor also shared one of her biggest life lessons is "use it or lose it!" That's what keeps her going at 100 years old.
