ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WENY) - The Dick's Sporting Goods Open is back at En-Joie Golf Club this week as the tournament celebrates its 15th anniversary on the Champions Tour. One golfer who has had a lot of success at En-Joie and gets to compete close to home once again is Horseheads native, Joey Sindelar.

Sindelar teed it up at Wednesday's Pro-Am. He is a two-time champion at En-Joie in 1985 and 1987 when it was the B.C. Open on the PGA Tour, and he has four top-5 finishes on the Champions Tour. This year's tournament is set to begin on Friday, August 19th with the final round on Sunday the 21st.

Sindelar is thrilled to be back home to compete, and he says it's a great time to regroup with people.

"This is the chance to see friends that have been part of my golf life or my life life for so long. I think my first was in '82 or '83, so we're coming up on 40 years worth of people just being so in my corner, it's awesome" said Sindelar. "To have a couple of wins at home and plenty of other top ten finishes through the years it's been a blast, and then just the success of this tournament, fighting the battles of the small market on the regular tour, and now is a really big event on the Champions Tour. Dick's Sporting Goods has made a lot of things possible for this event and it's so cool to come back and see the improvements."

"Everything is magnified here, you just want to do your best, for me here at home and everybody that comes to watch, my blood is pumping, their blood is pumping, it keeps it exciting" he added.

Sindelar is scheduled to tee off on Friday at 1:33 PM with Jay Haas and Billy Andrade.
