HAMMONDSPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- Tour De Keuka, the annual bike ride that raises money for the United Way of the Southern Tier is Saturday. Event organizers already expect the event to raise more funds than it did last year.

"We are on track to surpass last years fundraising total, and we will also surpass the total participants," said Stephen Hughes, president and C.E.O. of United Way of the Southern Tier. "We expect... approximately 200 [riders]."

In 2021, the ride around Keuka lake raised over $100,000 for the United Way of the Southern Tier. The event, which has been growing steadily since 2005, has grown to become a multi-state ride.

"Our sponsors, our participants are folks that come from [many different] states into the area to support this event. [This is] all to help the United Way of the Southern Tier meet the needs that our local children and seniors, and basic needs that people seeking food, clothing and shelter have," Hughes said.

Last year, was the first year that the United Way of the Southern Tier became the beneficiary of the bike ride.

"United Way is very blessed to be able to do this work. We have, each year, over 5,000 individual donors and corporate partners that help us do this work. It's a very significant undertaking, and the community should be proud to have this asset, and the investment that's made to help people," said Hughes.

Riders can choose between a 45, 60 or 100 mile ride. Each rider donates a $55 registration fee that goes to the United Way of the Southern Tier.

"We're very blessed to have the Finger Lakes here. It's a very close, intimate, niche event that we will continue to get behind and hopefully the community will continue to support," Hughes said.

The deadline to register for the ride is Friday at 12 p.m. More information can be found here.
