CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Corning locals came out to celebrate Community Night together at Corning Credit Union.

Coleen Fabrizi is the Executive Director of Corning's Gaffer District. She wanted to partner with Corning Credit Union to host a free, fun-filled event.

“They don't have to worry about paying for admission,” she said. “They can come enjoy great food and entertainment...we have some entertainment for the kids.”

Fabrizi said everyone should feel included in Corning's events, not just downtown visitors on Market Street.

“It's really important that people realize that the Gaffer District is more than just Market Street,” she said. “We have this incredible north side community...we just really put effort into making sure that we have a presence here for our events.”

Fabrizi reached out to the bank's Market Development Manager, Marc Shuart, because the bank has a large parking lot. The lot served as a perfect space for small events. Shuart said he loves to work with the Gaffer District.

“I'm looking around here now. Families are sitting down and having dinner,” he said. “This is what we want to see in the community...this is what we want to be a part of and we absolutely love seeing the families come out.”

Fabrizi said she is excited to see the community getting back together after a couple of years of social distancing due to Covid-19.

“We've been saying it, now for several months, just to see people out and enjoying the community again,” she said.

August 6th will be the Gaffer District's next community event. For more information, click this link.
